At only 3 hours away, nestled in the Ohio Valley, Madison, Indiana is at the top of my short "staycation" hot spots list.
Dubbed "The Prettiest Small Town in the Midwest", Madison is a treasure trove of historical homes (133 blocks of National Register homes), fine wineries, antiques stores and 19th-century B&Bs, offering a little something for everyone, no matter the time of year. (Don't forget, Madison is next to Clifty Falls, a beautiful state park, complete with waterfalls, hiking trails and birdwatching.)
If I can't make it this holiday season to check out Lanier Mansion's Festival of Trees, I'm planning on a mother/daughter trip this spring to check out their extensive gardens. Oh yes, tea and antiquing is a must!
